This stunning and quite heavy (0.94 kg) silver-plated ice or champagne bucket with brass decoration was made in Germany by the famous WMF Company, between 1915 and 1920. It bridges both the Arts & Crafts (or in Germany the Art Nouveau) Movement leaning into the Art Deco design. You can see the natural decorative brass element of ‘acorn & fern’ with wonderful triangular darts in a very modern round shape. This is where the two ideas come together nicely. Made in Germany by WMF and hallmarked. The WMF (Wurttemberg Metal Goods Factory) Company began operations in 1853 and is still one of the world’s foremost manufacturers in silver tableware. WMF pieces have adorned the tabletops of restaurants, hotels and homes around the world. WMF is especially prized by collectors for its Art Nouveau works of the late 19th century and Art Deco pieces manufactured throughout the early 20th century. This piece was found in Paris. As shown in a photograph (marked with a ring) there are some dents along the bottom edge and minor usage marks consistent with its age. The inside has not been cleaned :)
