Dimensions: Height 98 cm, Width 89 cm, Depth 49 cm
A rare and striking antique French Renaissance Revival cocktail cabinet, richly carved and full of wonderful period character, enhanced by beautiful heraldic leaded stained glass.
The cabinet features elaborate carved decoration with classical masks, scrolling foliage and a particularly impressive lower central lion-mask carving with a ring handle. The upper section is enclosed by two unusual textured glass and decorative metalwork doors featuring grape and vine motifs – wonderfully appropriate for its use as a drinks cabinet.
Opening the doors reveals a highly decorative interior with six small glass shelves and a colourful heraldic-style stained glass panel to the back, creating a superb setting for displaying bottles, cocktail glasses and barware. Four interior lights illuminate the cabinet and show the stained glass to wonderful advantage, although the cabinet looks equally impressive when unlit.
One of the most intriguing features is the lower section. At first glance, the carved animal head with a ring in its mouth appears to be the handle of a conventional drawer. Instead, the entire section cleverly revolves to reveal additional concealed storage while also providing a useful surface from which to prepare or serve drinks.
A highly individual piece of French furniture combining impressive craftsmanship, decorative impact and practical storage. Its relatively compact proportions make it a wonderful statement piece for a dining room, living room, library or home bar.
