An amazing and rare antique French Empire style flamed mahogany (with beautiful inlay) secretaire (circa 1810) with original and beautifully shaped black marble top. A fall front opens to reveal a magnificent interior, with a black leather writing surface edged with a gold-leafed, embossed frieze and centre decoration, complete with an open shelf with two small stylized columns, inlaid back and six inlaid drawers. The bottom cabinet with three beautiful inlaid drawers. The brass decorations, escutcheons and pulls are stunning. This piece retains the original and unusual locking key (see photo). There are two fine cracks on the outside of the dropdown front and some minor knocks chips which are part of its long history and do not take away from this piece. This would be perfect as a hallway piece due to the narrow depth.
