A magnificent example of French Gothic Revival design,
this grand solid oak dresser buffet dates to the mid 19th century
(circa 1850–1870) and showcases exceptional craftsmanship,
dramatic proportions, and striking carved architectural detail.
The upper section features two elaborately carved doors,
adorned with pointed Gothic arches and intricate tracery,
flanking a spacious open shelving area — perfect for
displaying fine china, antique books, or curated collections.
Fluted pilasters and bold barley twist columns frame the body,
rising to full-bodied carved figural busts at the top corners,
bringing a sculptural, cathedral-like presence to the piece.
Below, the base is equally commanding, with a thick oak top,
four fluted panelled cabinet doors, and three central drawers
embellished with deep figural and floral carvings.
These carvings are echoed again in full-body form
at the lower corners — adding weight, drama, and
rare decorative detail not often found in furniture of this type.
The piece is finished in a deep, aged oak patina and retains
all original Gothic-style hardware, including
stylised escutcheons and decorative drawer pulls.
This is an outstanding antique — both functional and sculptural —
ideal for interiors that call for richness, presence, and history.
