A superb antique French19th Century Louis XV style enfilade buffet handcrafted from walnut and burled walnut in the typical technique mastered by the skilled artisans of Bresse, circa 1880s.This beautiful provincial buffet features an inset walnut top above three carved drawers. The three moulded and panelled walnut doors with burled walnut panels are separated by beautiful carved stiles with classic shell motifs. The carved and shaped apron rests on elegant Louis style cabriole legs. The burled walnut panels have an aged crackled appearance which does not effect this in any way. There are three individual keys for the three doors. The interior areas each have one adjustable height shelf. There is a slight separation on the right side which is if no consequence and mentioned for accuracy reasons. This piece is sturdy and solid. The country cabinetmakers of Bresse produced characteristic furniture in the Louis XV style, using contrasting woods. The Bresse region, with its reputation for rich traditional cuisine. The buffet or enfilade was considered an essential furnishing for any self-respecting home. Able to store a family's china, silverware, and linens while providing a generous serving surface, it was indispensable in the dining room. Today, these versatile buffets can be used in most any room.
