An Antique French Renaissance Revival Carved Oak Buffet – Late 19th Century – G046

This striking antique French oak buffet is a superb example of Renaissance Revival design from the late 19th century. Richly carved and powerfully proportioned, it combines sculptural ornamentation with architectural symmetry, making it a commanding presence in any interior.

The buffet features a pair of deeply carved cupboard doors, each framed with classical motifs and centred by a bold diamond lozenge panel surrounded by volutes, scrolls, and acanthus-inspired flourishes. The drawers above are equally detailed, adorned with carved patterns and flanked by carved masks and classical column capitals.

Supported by turned and fluted side columns and resting on a deeply moulded plinth base, the piece is crafted from solid oak with a dark, mature patina. A robust and refined storage piece, it would suit a grand dining room, study, or hallway.

The door have some age splits which can be seen in the photos - this is mentioned for accuracy reasons as it does not affect this piece.  The previous owner had glued at the back at some stage.  The lion's head on the left is missing a small piece off its nose which is hardly noticeable.  The top has just a few scratches as shown.  For its age this is a magnificent piece.
