A warm and charming example of early & genuine French Provincial furniture,
this Antique Dresser Vaisselier Buffet dates to the early to mid 19th century
and is crafted from solid oak, displaying a beautiful golden-brown tone and characteristic grain.
This two-part piece — combining a lower storage buffet with an open shelved upper section —
was traditionally used in rural French homes to store crockery and linens while proudly displaying the family’s finest serving pieces.
The upper section features three open fixed shelves with original wood backboards,
ideal for displaying ceramics, ironstone, glassware or cookbooks. This appears to have had doors in its earlier life.
This is a very early piece and has age knocks and wear as we have tried to show which would be expected with a piece of this age and usage. There are old borer holes which is usual with genuine antiques - this is not of any concern as all our pieces are treated by Government regulation upon arrival from France.
The lower cabinet features twin panelled doors with carved detail and brass escutcheons,
opening to generous internal storage.
The shaped apron, gentle serpentine mouldings and lightly scrolled feet add grace to its rural simplicity.
The key can be removed when it is unlocked but not when locked.
Crafted using traditional pegged joinery and fitted with original hardware,
this buffet retains its authentic French countryside character,
offering warmth and charm that suits a wide range of interior styles —
from classic and farmhouse to modern rustic or French country kitchen.
