A Pair of Antique French Gaston Leroux Illustrated Novels – 1929 Editions - FB15

A charming and increasingly difficult-to-find pair of authentic French novels by the celebrated author Gaston Leroux (1868–1927), best known worldwide as the creator of The Phantom of the Opera (Le Fantôme de l'Opéra) and The Mystery of the Yellow Room.

Published in Paris in 1929 by Éditions Jeanne Gaston-Leroux, these matching volumes include:

  • La Double Vie de Théophraste Longuet – Première Partie
  • Le Capitaine Hyx – Première Partie

Both books retain their matching black bindings with handwritten paper spine labels, giving them a distinctive period appearance and suggesting they were once part of a carefully assembled private French library.

Beautifully illustrated throughout with striking black-and-white Art Deco-style illustrations by Serge and Brusset, these editions possess wonderful decorative appeal while also representing works by one of France's most celebrated mystery and adventure writers.

Whether displayed in a library, study or French Provincial interior, they offer both literary significance and authentic early twentieth-century French character.

Included Volumes

  • La Double Vie de Théophraste Longuet – Première Partie
  • Le Capitaine Hyx – Première Partie

Condition

Presented in good antique condition consistent with age and as shown in the photographs. Both volumes display expected wear to the bindings and handwritten spine labels, together with age toning and occasional foxing throughout.

The bindings remain complete but are beginning to loosen, with some internal hinge separation visible. Despite this, both books remain attractive display pieces and retain excellent decorative appeal.

Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.

  • Decorative libraries
