Bossuet – Œuvres Choisies by J. Calvet - 1928 French Literary & Historical Book - FB16

A charming and authentic French literary volume published in Paris in 1928, Bossuet – Œuvres Choisies presents a carefully edited selection of the writings of the celebrated seventeenth-century bishop, theologian and orator Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet (1627–1704).

Edited by the distinguished French scholar J. Calvet, this tenth edition was published by Librairie A. Hatier as part of the respected Collection d'Auteurs Français, a series produced for French schools and universities. More than simply a reading text, the volume includes an extensive introduction, bibliography, historical notes, grammar and vocabulary aids, together with numerous documentary illustrations and facsimiles reproduced from original seventeenth-century editions and manuscripts.

Bossuet served at the court of Louis XIV and is widely regarded as one of the greatest masters of classical French prose. His famous sermons, funeral orations and historical writings have remained influential for over three centuries, making this volume an appealing addition to any collection of French literature, history or decorative antique books.

Bound in its original red cloth with gilt lettering to the spine and front board, the book displays beautifully on a shelf and retains the rich character expected of an authentic French publication from the 1920s.
